Dr Tonio Fenech is a co-founder of Fenech Farrugia Fiott legal who has transited from partner to senior consultant of the Firm. He remains particularly active in the field of corporate commercial law, the law of fiduciary obligations and trusts, asset & corporate finance law and the general field of corporate governance.
He first obtained his Masters Degree in Maritime and Aviation law from the University of London (UCL) and his Doctorate in Maltese law from the University of Malta in 1986. Representing the 3rd generation of lawyers in his family, he pioneered and developed the international and corporate practice of Fenech & Fenech Advocates and was the founding CEO of the Fenlex Group of companies, now a developed trust and corporate services group in Malta.
In 2008 he resigned from both positions and left the family firm to form Fenech Farrugia Fiott Legal. This move allowed him to concretize his aspirations to develop collaborative multi-disciplinary professional service offerings in the context of an open-architecture legal practice. He was the founding Chairman, between 2010 and 2016, of the ARQ Group of Companies, a multi-disciplinary professional services organization that includes licensed trustee, corporate and accounting services offerings, as well as advisory services in areas which would benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach, including tax, compliance and risk, investment migration, etc. The group is part of a collaborative professional services organization which includes the law firm as collaborative partner and centre of legal expertise.
Tonio is regularly invited to speak at conferences on various subjects and also teaches aspects of trusts & fiduciary obligations law, insurance law and asset finance law at the University of Malta. He has also accepted office as director or officer of a number of organizations and is personally authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority to act as administrator of private Foundations and other organizations.
